On Thursday November 4, Geekfest Beirut took place in PLUM (a pub) in Monot. It was the first time I was attending it, with the lausocial class. At first, when Ayman Itani (our lausocial professor!) announced that we were going, I wasn’t that interested! By its name, I had assumptions that it was going to be a bit boring, and that a group of people obsessed with technology, pcs, and the like were all going to be there. Honestly, I was a bit worried!

Not knowing exactly where the place was, me and ivana (a classmate!) decided to head there an hour earlier, just in case we got lost! And we actually did, big time! So it was a huge relief when we actually found the place! We were there by 6:30, and the event was due to start by 7:30! Now we were the ones who were feeling a bit geeky! 🙂

The entrance of PLUM!!! Finally found it after continous twirls around Monot street!!

Ofcourse, the pub was empty in the beginning, with only me and Ivana there, staring at each other and feeling bored, tired, and restless! However, a couple of minutes later, some LAU Social people began to show up, to our relief! We all had the same concerns: How is it going to be like- What are we going to do- Who’s going to be there…etc…

Ayman Itani explaining to the LAU social boys how to tweet from Ipad!

A couple of minutes later, the place was packed with people, and we had to go to the front desk to register our “twitter names” in order for other people to find us(on twitter, i mean!). The atmosphere was cozy, and the music was vibrant and exciting. (i really loved their playlist!).

The crowd at Geekfest!

The speakers soon began, and their presentations were far from boring or ordinary! The crowd was getting too excited and comfortable most of the time, the speakers had to plead them to keep their voices down! Among the many speakers were the creators of Shankaboot, GoNabbit, Yalla Startup, Le Gustav, and many more!
The crowd was getting more and more excited after each speech, and despite many technical problems, like compatibility issues, the show went on! I was starting to get the hang of it, but unfortunately had to leave a while earlier!
To sum it all up, i became familiar with the term “never judge a book by it’s cover”! It turned out to be alot more fun than expected!
